I am mystified by the ratings that have been assigned.  It seems apparent the the 'number' that has been assigned for each boat is used to multiply by 'elapsed time' to get 'corrected time'.

However, why is there a difference between the Spinnaker Cup and Pac Cup rating factor?

What is the formula that is used to convert PHRF ratings to these time correction factors?

While I am at this, another question:  Why are there virtually no conversations on this forum this time?

Perplexed.

The formula for converting PHRF ratings two years ago was TCF=480/(PHRFDW-40).  This year's should be similar.  Ratings factors are based on the expected wind conditions for a given distance race. Different distance races have different average conditions and thus different ratings are assigned.

It was my understanding that all competitors (in phrf) had to be members of NorCal phrf.  OK, fine. Anyone that cares to see the phrf stuff on my boat (Hula, Westsail 32) is welcome to do so on the NorCal website.  I’m just curious to know why I can find no such information on the Valiant 32 “Morning Star” in my class.  It makes the race more fun and interesting if I know things like spinnaker sizes, propeller type etc…. Thank you for any information you can provide.  Bill Stange

Bill, If you select the boat in the "Entry List". Then select "Safety and Submissions". It appears that most of the boats have a PHRF form under that tab. I checked and do see one there for Morning Star.
