Summary: We registered for and started the San Francisco YRA 2023 Bluewater Bash to serve as our 150 mile qualifying voyage.  Our start was August 19, 2023 at 0945. The start was in a good breeze, unfortunately mid-afternoon outside the Golden Gate the wind became very light due to the effects of Tropical Storm Hilary off Southern California.  The next 15 hours were spent working to keep the boat moving, making slow progress to the Northwest and staying in contact with the other boats in our division, Glass Slipper (Antrim 40) and Kahoots (Andrews 43).  Glass Slipper and Kahoots abandoned the race overnight.  At 0400 on Sunday, August 20 it was unlikely that we could finish within the time limit so we abandoned the race and motored West for a few hours to where the usual Northwest wind was forecast to return.  At 0700 we turned around and sailed East past the Farallones, then Northeast towards Drakes Bay where we set the spinnaker for an afternoon of surfing the swells and practicing our jibes.  We returned under spinnaker all the way to the Bay Bridge, arriving at our home port of South Beach Harbor about 1830.
