Narrative Sailing CV - I have been sailing for more than 35 years. I grew up racing small boats and cruising on my family’s C&C 32 in Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, and the inside passage including Desolation Sound. I have since piloted that boat as the PIC, both solo and with crew, on numerous outings and extended trips throughout the PNW. I raced 505’s and 420’s competitively in College at UCSC, as well as foredeck on a Santa Cruz 27 in the 1980’s. I was also involved in point-to-point races on larger boats, including Vic-Maui on a Trip 41 [Trimmer/Driver] and a Cal 40 post-transpac return to Seattle.
For the past 19 years I have sailed in a variety of capacities on racing Keelboats in the SF Bay Area, both around the buoy’s inside the bay and Ocean racing programs. I have been actively involved in the Single Handed Sailing Society of San Francisco Bay (SSS) since 2010.
In 2012 I acquired the Wilderness 30 DOMINO and began refitting her for the SHTP; Since then, I have been actively sailing and racing single and shorthanded, participating in most SSS events and other offshore adventures. In 2014 I started the SHTP and was leading the race when I lost my rudder ~180nm WSW of Monterey. After recovery by the USCG, I fitted a new rudder and bearings, then sailed and won the 2016 SHTP (4th to Finish, Division and Overall Corrected winner). From 2016-18 I served as Commodore of the SSS. In late 2018 I sold DOMINO and acquired Olson 29 #13, HEDGEHOG & refit and prepared the boat for SHTP 2020. COVID Canceled the 2020 race, and life changes shifted my participation to off-shore Race Chair and USCG coordination for 2023.
